August 31 Newsletter

This week was another great week! We have now practiced all of our Daily 5 areas, and we will be actually starting guided reading and our Daily 5 rotations this week. I can't wait to read with all of the kiddos. Keep an eye out for your child's bag of books coming home, along with a note explaining how your child will use it at home and in the classroom. Have a great week!  :)

Reading/Units of Study: We will be able to identify the central message. We will be able to identify problem and solution. We will be able to collaborate and listen to our peers by working together and sharing our ideas. We will understand the meaning of depend, details and fact.
Writer's Workshop: We will be able to include details to write a sequenced narrative. We will able to include an opening sentence, beginning, middle, end and a closing. A narrative is a story with characters, a setting, and a beginning, middle and ending.
Math: We will be able to identify part-part-whole when adding. We will be able to identify the addends (parts) and the whole (sum). We will be able to use strategies to identify the missing part. We will be able to use a part-part-whole mat to create models to help us solve problems.
Phonics: We will be able to read and write words with digraphs. A digraph is two letters that work together to make one sound. Here are our words for the week: whip, when, bath, wish, bush, whale, with, fish, path, white, whiz, dish. Also, here are some videos and games that will help with learning digraphs!
