August 24th Newsletter

We enjoyed another good week in our classroom! On Friday, we were able to earn 4 class compliments, which puts our total at 10 already! That gets us closer to our goal of 50. We enjoyed learning about a few of our Daily 5 choices and even got a chance to practice them. This upcoming week, we will be continuing to learn our routines and will also practice the rest of our Daily 5 choices that we get to do when I am teaching guided reading. Also, all teachers have professional development on Friday, so your kiddo only has a 4 day week :)

Reading/Units of Study: We will be able to retell the beginning, middle and ending of stories. We will understand how to identify the problem and solution of stories. We will be able to identify characters and setting in stories and will understand the importance of including them in stories. We will understand the meaning of character, setting, problem, solution and topic.
Writer's Workshop: We will be able to include details to write a sequenced narrative. We will able to include an opening sentence, beginning, middle, end and a closing. A narrative is a story with characters, a setting, and a beginning, middle and ending.
Math: We will be able to identify part-part-whole when adding. We will understand the meaning of addition, number sentence and sum. We will be able to join two parts together to find the whole amount. We will also be taking our first math test on Thursday!
Phonics: We will be able to read and write long vowel words: lime, vote, tune, cube, cute, rope, these, shade, shine, chase, tube, ate  Here are a few great video and game links for learning more about the long vowels
