This week, we had a
great time learning about the four seasons and the different types of
weather that accompany each season. We used our senses to create a lot of details that we will be using in our personal narratives next week. Here is a peek at what we will be focusing on next week in our classroom.
Writer's Workshop: We will be starting our personal narratives on a favorite small moment
during a season. So far, our small moment ideas are great. As a reminder, a small moment is a story about ourselves that is very important to us. For example,
Christmas would be a great personal narrative idea, but turning it into a small moment would be choosing one event from Christmas. Some small moment ideas for Christmas would be Christmas morning, opening presents, or Christmas dinner with your family.
Math: In math, we will continue to learn about subtraction and addition strategies to help us add with more fluency. Don't forget to head to www.pearsonrealize.com to look over Topic 4, which is what we are working on now.
Reading: In reading, we will be focusing on all of the story elements and how they can change numerous times during one story. We will also continue to focus on character change. I am also excited about a certain book we will begin reading. I'll give a clue . . . It's about a certain girl from Kansas with ruby red slippers that gets whisked away to a magical place
with a good witch and a bad witch. Hmmmm, any guesses???
Phonics/Spelling: We will be learning how to read and write words that begin with the str, tw, and spl blends. Don't forget that you can have your child head to www.spellingcity.com/mrswalleman/ for some fun ways to practice their words for the week!
