I hope everyone is enjoying their last couple days of Fall break. I had a great time off and enjoyed spending time with Parker doing some super fun stuff! I can't wait to hear what everyone got to do on their week away from school :) This upcoming unit, titled Winds of Change, is all about science, science and . . . science! We will be focusing a lot on cause and effect relationships, by seeing changes in matter, force & motion and weather. We will be making observations and doing experiments to really get an up close look at changes all around us. Our character word for the month of October
is Problem Solving. Problem solving is the process of working through details of a problem to reach a solution. I will get a chance to see a lot of this during our time spent with partners and groups :)
Reading/Units of Study:
We will be able to ask and answer questions. We will be able to make observations on matter, including properties. We will be able to understand cause and effect relationships. We will be able to create and update a KWL chart on matter. We will understand the meaning of matter, solid, liquid and gas. Check down below for some good links on matter :)
Writer's Workshop:
We will be able to write a small moment personal narrative. We will be able to include details that make our writing focused and interesting. We will be able to share our ideas and story with our writing partner.
Math:
We will be able to count on from the greater number to add 0, 1 or 2. We will be able to identify doubles and near doubles. We will understand how to find facts on a 10-frame. We will
understand the meaning of double and near double. Check below for some good links to learn more about these skills :)
Phonics: We will be able to read and write words with the ea vowel team.
The skill this week is learning about the ea vowel team. This vowel team is tricky because the ea vowel team
can either make the long e or short e sound. We have to learn how to
use context to decide if the word has the short e or long e. Have fun
practicing this week! Here are
our words for the week: scrape, scrap, scribe, script, scream, scram, spray, spree, spread, sprite, screen. Don't forget about using Spelling City to practice our words in a fun way!
