Week of January 11th - 15th

This week we are starting our new unit, Healthy Habits. We opened the unit by filling our brains with all the ways to stay healthy.

In phonics, we are learning all about when to use k and when to use ck when we hear the /k/ sound. The rule is that after a short vowel, use ck . . . but after a long vowel or a consonant, use the k. Our words for week 17 are brisk, luck, ask, lock, check, desk, thick, beak, cloak, stick, drink, frisk. Head to Spelling City to practice these words and more!

In math, we are continuing to learn all about tens and ones. We just started our new topic, which will teach more about counting, writing and identifying tens and ones. Here is a fun game about tens and ones. Here is another game/quiz to help with tens and ones too!

In reading, we are learning all about main idea and details. The main idea of a story/book is what it is all about. The details support the main idea. We will be identifying main idea and details by reading about healthy habits, such as the food groups, and identifying any key details we learn about them.

In writing, our new focus is on Writing Reviews  (opinion writing). We will get a chance to write various reviews on things we know a lot about. Writing a review is something I just know the kids will love doing!
