December 8th - 12th

Next week we will continue reading different versions of Cinderella. Next week we will read Cendrillon, which is the Caribbean Cinderella and Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters, which is an African tale. We will also continue to compare and contrast the different versions, which is all about making connections between different texts. Next week is also our final week of Adopt-A-Family. As of right
now, we have $10 out of our $100 goal. I have been talking it up a lot, but it is now crunch time to help our family that is desperately in need of a good Christmas. If you have anything you can offer, please think about helping. Below is all you need to know about next week :)

Reading/Units of Study: We will be able to identify story elements in the different versions of Cinderella. We will be able to compare and contrast stories by identifying their similarities and differences.
Vocabulary: We will know the meaning of version & fairy tale.
Phonics: We will be able to read & write words with -er, which is an r-controlled vowel. Our spelling words for the week are:  herd, fern, her, after, term, ever, under, filter, lever. Remember, they can be accessed through Spelling City. I showed the kiddos how much fun it is, so I’m hoping they’re asking to use it at home! Also, here is a great & sassy R-controlled vowel video that will review the different R-controlled vowel teams.
Math: We will understand 2-digit numbers and we will be able to count to 120. Here is a great video on counting to 120.
Writing: We will be able to edit, revise and digitally publish our opinion writing piece.
Grammar: We will continue to review the meanings of noun, verb, and adjective.
Social Studies/Science: We will be able to make connections through different cultures, customs and traditions around the world.

A special note from Ms. Krueger:  Each child in class needs a SMALL flashlight (one that fits in their pocket) for our program in the spring.  Ms. Krueger is asking for them now so the students can practice with them in class.  Please send one in with your child.  Label it with their name and their teacher's name.  It would be great if it could be sent when we come back from Christmas break.  Thank you!
